Who We Are
Director of Kinese
A Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst since 1985, Karen has taught LMA at the Certification level in Berlin and in numerous U.S. programs. She continues to teach in the Graduate Laban Certificate Program at Columbia College in Chicago. A former Full Professor in Dance at Cornish College of the Arts, Karen is also former Director of Dance Centre/Seattle. She has enjoyed teaching in numerous colleges, universities, and studios across the U.S. for the past 30 years. Having received many grants and commissions for choreography and performance, one of her video/dance works was selected for inclusion in the Archival Collection at Guangdong Academy of the Performing Arts in Guangzhou, China. In freelance practice Karen’s movement clients have included everyone from physicians and chiropractors to motorcycle racers and professional golfers. Since 1999, her beautiful Bellevue facility has integrated heart, mind, and body in support of individuality and the personal power created through health.

Karen
Scherwood, BA, CLMA is an internationally recognized movement educator, performer
and choreographer. She is a highly skilled trainer of the
Gyrotonic Expansion System, first certified to teach Gyrotonic in 1992 by its
founder
and creator, Juliu Horvath. She is a Certified Level II GYROTONIC® trainer,
a Certified GYROTONIC® Pre-trainer (trainer education and development),
a Certified Level I GYROKINESIS® trainer, and has received certification
for the Gyrotonic Ladder and numerous auxilary Gyrotonic equipment.
